Bayer Leverkusen has become the champions of the Bundesliga for the first time in 120 years of history. Xabi Alonso's side finished the league unbeaten. In their full season, they were 51 games unbeaten and lost one game across all competitions in the final of the UEFA Europa League against Atalanta. The German club has had a sensational run as they won the DFB Pokal as well. Leverkusen will be a challenging team in the upcoming season because of the amount of energy and passion they bring in.
Alonso's side already have started building their squad for the 2024/25 season. As per the reports, by Saudi journalist Alhazza Mutab, they are planning to bring back Cristiano Ronaldo to Europe for the next season. The head coach personally wants the Portuguese to join the club. The 2010 World Cup winner believes that the experienced footballer will help Bayer in the Bundesliga and the Champions League.
The 39-year-old footballer left Europe back in 2023 and has been a star in Saudi playing for the club Al Nassr. He has scored 56 goals and made 15 assists in 62 matches for the club. On Monday he surpassed a record as he became the first footballer to be the top scorer in four different leagues (Spain, Italy, England, Saudi Arabia). He currently has 35 goals which is the most in the league as he broke the previous record of Abderrazak Hamdallah who previously scored 34 in the 2018/19 season.
Will Ronaldo join Leverkusen?
With the transfer window still open there will be a lot of speculations and rumors about the football player will be interested in joining back in Europe for the Bundesliga club. However, the agreement with the club is valid until June 2025. At present, he has a market value of €15 million.
The 42-year-old has a year of contract left with the club and despite interest from other clubs he decided to stay in the club for a year. However, he might be a possible option for Real Madrid in upcoming years or Liverpool as well. During his playing days he represented both the clubs.
