The much-anticipated UEFA Euro 2024 is finally underway as the hosts Germany dismantled Scotland in the opening game of the tournament. However, it wasn’t a great day for the Scotland team and their supporters as they lost 5-1 at the Allianz Arena today.
Florian Wirtz and Jamal Musiala score as Germany dominates Scotland in the first half during their Euro 2024 match in Munich. The duo worked well together, as did the manager's choice to start the young players ahead of senior veteran Thomas Muller. They were also able to write history today, breaking records that no one expected them to achieve in this game versus Scotland.
This was the first time at the Men's European Championships, two players aged 21 or under have scored for the same team in a single game. Germany's two youngest ever goalscorers at the tournament made history and they did it for the youngest manager in Euros history.
Germany score three more as Scotland get dominated on opening day
Ryan Porteus uses his left leg to plant his studs into Gundogan's ankle, scrambling furiously to keep the ball out of the net. Gundogan receives a cross, his header is deflected by Gunn, and he is then knocked down by Porteous shortly after he attempts to enter the action. Havertz took the penalty and placed it into the left side of the net.
Jamal Musiala and Gudogan connect again on the left, this time centering to Niklas Fullkrug, who collects the low cross and then swings his foot over to unleash a half-volley from 18 yards which sails into the top right corner. Scotland did find a consolation as Antonio Rudiger’s deflection saw the ball sail over Neuer’s head to give some joy to the Scottish team and it’s fans.
Emre Can scored the hosts' fifth and final goal of the night, capping an outstanding performance. The midfielder only got the call up just a few days ago, yet he was already celebrating a well-executed goal from just outside of the box.

Impressive start from Germany. They will be tough to stop with momentum and home support behind them. Great for Havertz to get up and running early. Scotland just awful.
