The UEFA Euro 2024 is set to begin today as the hosts Germany look to get their campaign started against the mighty Scotland at the Allianz Arena in Munich. But once the teams were announced one name was not in the Germany squad and that might have left a few question marks in the minds of fans all over the world.

Germany head coach Julen Naglessman has decided to not start the veteran Thomas Muller in the tournament opener against Scotland. The German manager has made the call to start youngster Jamal Musiala in the number 10 role. This might be a call that the team management might regret later on since it is surely a risky call to drop someone of the stature of Thomas Muller.

This European Championship gives a significant opportunity for the host nation to recover from previous setbacks, while Scotland hopes to make their mark by reaching the knockout round for the first time ever. Julian Nagelsmann, returning to familiar territory following a stint with Bayern Munich, heads Germany's charge. His team hopes to shine during this post-Joachim Low period, aiming for European success for the first time after 1996.

Germany, the favourites to win the group, has a strong record during friendlies but has not played competitively since 2022, and was selected automatically as hosts. Scotland, with only one win over their last nine games, is looking to defy the odds.

Which players are starting the game between Germany and Scotland?

A number of superstars are set to play in the tournament opener including the likes of Scott Mctominay, Florian Wirtz and Jamal Musiala. But ahead of the match, let’s take a look at who all are in the playing XI for both the teams.

Germany playing XI: Manuel Neuer, Joshua Kimmich, Antonio Rudiger, Jonathan Tah, Mittelstadt, Toni Kroos, Ilkay Gundogan, Robert Andrich, Jamal Musiala, Kai Havertz, Florian Wirtz.
