The saga involving Barcelona and Nico Williams extended through the entire summer. Eventually, the standout player from the European Championship in Germany chose to remain in Barcelona League rival Bilbao. Barcelona's sporting director, Deco, shared his thoughts on the matter.

As a former footballer turned Blaugrana official, Deco remained unfazed by Barcelona's inability to secure the talented winger. Despite the club's longstanding interest in Williams, an agreement between the two clubs couldn't be reached, resulting in the younger Williams brother staying in the Basque Country.

Deco's stand on signing Williams

According to Barcelona's Director Deco, another Spaniard middfielder, Dani Olmo, provides more versatility and attacking options to the team compared to anyone else. Deco further added that the Catalians had more prolific players in the likes of Raphinha, Ferran Torres, Ansu Fati Lamine Yamal and Fermin who can play in the same position as Nico Williams.

Update from Fabrizio Romano

Famous football transfer journalist , Fabrizio Romano took to his X to post Barcelona's director's statement, "We didn't sign him, because in that position we have Rafinha, Ferran, Ansu, Lamin, with the addition of Fermin and Olmo who can help. Dani Olmo gives us a lot more options than if we signed another winger."

Deco's take on Olmo proving to be True

Olmo's return to FC Barcelona has been truly impressive, with strong performances and pivotal goals in both matches. In the match against Rayo Vallecano, Olmo's entry at half-time ignited a remarkable improvement in the second half, leading to a 2-1 comeback victory, with Olmo securing the decisive goal.

In his debut match against Real Valladolid, Olmo showcased relentless energy and determination, continuously driving the attacking play. Despite hitting the post twice, having a goal disallowed, and creating numerous scoring opportunities, he remained undeterred until his decisive contribution before being substituted, scoring the sixth goal in Barcelona's commanding 7-0 win. Notably, Olmo's remarkable goal-scoring frequency stands at an astonishing one goal every 64 minutes.
