'What a match to win the title!' - Fans react as Inter Milan clinch Serie A title after victory against AC Milan

AC Milan tried their level best but were not able to do much against the resiliant Inter Milan side who have now won their 20th Serie A title.

In tonight’s Derby della Madonnina, the top two teams in Italy squared off as Inter Milan attempted to defeat city rivals AC Milan to win the Scudetto. The biggest teams in Serie A gathered at San Siro to play in the high-stakes Milan derby, as Inter wanted to win the title against their historical rivals.

With just six games remaining, irrepressible Inter is now a single win away from becoming champions in the most unusual of circumstances. A victory tonight would have additionally tied Serie A's record for the fastest time that a club has guaranteed the title, a feat Napoli accomplished last year. Prior to the derby, Inter Milan were currently sitting 14 points ahead of AC Milan.

Inter gave over control to AC Milan cautiously early in the first half, but they managed to hold it without producing anything significant. As the half went on, Inter became more and more into the game. In the eighteenth minute,  a header coming from a corner by Francesco Acerbi opened the scoring tonight. The Nerazzurri had two excellent opportunities but Lautaro Martinez and Marcus Thuram both wasted them. At the half, Inter were leading 1-0, with an eye set to lift the 20th Serie A title.

Marcus Thuram's double during the 49th minute gave the Nerazzurri the greatest start to the second half. Inter had already taken a lead. Neither side produced much, and the game eventually died down. That is, until Fikayo Tomori made a comeback in the 80th minute.

But despite exerting pressure, AC Milan was unable to score, and Inter Milan made history by winning the Scudetto for the first time ever in a Serie A Derby Della Madonnina match at the second attempt. Simone Inzaghi, the coach of Inter Milan, won his first Serie A championship as a coach. The Nerazzurri coach has won six titles in his role as Inter Milan manager as well.
