This news has shocked the football community, prompting fans and fellow players to express their concern and send positive messages to the 34-year-old forward.

Images circulated on social media after the recent accident showed damage to the vehicle involved.

In a statement posted on X the club said: "West Ham United can confirm striker Michail Antonio has today been involved in a road traffic accident. The thoughts and prayers of everyone at the club are with Michail, his family and friends at this time. The club will issue an update in due course."

Antonio has already had a 'Car-Crash'

This incident follows a previous car crash that Antonio experienced on Christmas Day in 2019, where he, unfortunately, lost control of his £210,000 Lamborghini Huracan, crashing it into a bin shed at a family's home in Balham, south London. At that time, he was dressed as a snowman, which added an unusual twist to the story. In 2021, Antonio also addressed the financial impact stemming from that previous crash.

The 34-year-old has played in 15 fixtures for West WestHam this season, contributing just one goal.

As West Ham's all-time Premier League top scorer, Antonio has netted 68 goals in the top flight. He joined the club in 2015 from Nottingham Forest and played a crucial role in securing the UEFA Conference League title in 2017. That same year, Antonio received West Ham's Player of the Year award.

Antonio's disconnect from football

A dedicated father of four, Antonio openly shared earlier this year that he is undergoing therapy after experiencing a significant disconnection from football, even admitting to wishing for an injury to keep him off the pitch.

"I was like, I just want to get injured, I want some time off". So, it's all those things that spiral through your mind. You're thinking, "Is this the end for me? Is this my football career over?"' Antonio revealed in an interview.
