Talk about the European Super League is still prevalent. Zlatan Ibrahimovic along with Aleksander Ceferin light-heartedly reminisced about the failed proposal during the UEFA Champions League draw. Tension and comedy mixed together at the glitzy UEFA Champions League draw in Monaco, wherein Cristiano Ronaldo was named the league's all-time top scorer. During a Champions League promotional film, Zlatan Ibrahimovic said something that caused UEFA president Aleksander Ceferin to take a surprising stand.

In the video clip, Zlatan Ibrahimovic said, “This is the SUPER…”. However, he was interrupted by Aleksander Ceferin as he said, “Shhhh… I told you that was never going to happen.”

In a succinct but impactful statement, the president of UEFA alluded to the doomed European Super League idea, which aimed to establish an exclusive tournament that would have pitted the biggest European teams against one another.

Having been caught on camera, the moment instantly went viral on social media, making it one of most strongly talked-about subjects of the day. It has been said that Ceferin's mockery of the European Super League is a symbolic win for UEFA and the old values of European football.

What was the European Super League and why it didn’t come into existence?

A collection of clubs, notably Real Madrid and FC Barcelona, announced the creation of the European Super League with great excitement in April of 2021. UEFA, national associations, governments, and supporters, who considered the initiative as a danger to the fundamentals of football, fiercely opposed it.

The founding clubs were compelled to abandon the proposal after days due to pressure from all these parties involved, demonstrating the impossibility of a tournament that aimed to deviate from the current European football system.

The Champions League and UEFA have become even more powerful as a result of the Super League's demise. For every football player and team, the best continental club competition is still the ultimate goal, and in recent years, its stature has only grown.
