Supporters of Maccabi Tel Aviv and pro-Palestinian protesters engaged in confrontations before and after a Europa League soccer match between their team and Ajax outside the home stadium of the Dutch team in Amsterdam on Thursday night, according to reports from media and officials.
These incidents occurred despite a ban on pro-Palestinian demonstrations implemented by Amsterdam Mayor Femke Halsema, who had sought to prevent potential conflicts between the two groups.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu took proactive measures by ordering the deployment of two aircraft to the Dutch capital to facilitate the return of Israeli citizens.
He expressed deep concern over the distressing events that have affected our citizens in Amsterdam and emphasized the importance of addressing these incidents with seriousness. Netanyahu has called on the Dutch government to act decisively and swiftly against those responsible.
