India ended their 11-year wait for an ICC championship as they defeated South Africa in the T20 World Cup 2022 final, led by Rohit Sharma. After winning the T20 World Cup, Rohit Sharma celebrated by mimicking FIFA World Cup winner Lionel Messi's iconic trophy-lifting move.
On Saturday, June 29, in an exciting final match at the Kensington Oval in Barbados, the side captained by Rohit Sharma emerged victorious by seven wickets. Following the first T20 World Cup in 2007, the Men in Blue won their second championship. Notably, it was India's first victory with an ICC trophy since the Champions Trophy in 2013.
The entire squad was thrilled to meet their leader and excitedly anticipated the trophy hoist. Earlier, left-arm wrist spinner Kuldeep Yadav advised that Rohit mimic Lionel Messi's legendary walk during the medal celebration.

When it came time to pick up the World Cup trophy, Rohit did it in style, imitating the well-known Lionel Messi celebration. As the entire squad stood on the stage, BCCI secretary Jay Shah attempted to give the Indian captain the trophy. Following in Messi's footsteps, Rohit picked up the trophy and raised it into the air.

After Lionel Messi's squad defeated France 4–2, the World Cup winner was decided by a penalty shootout.
