Hungary keeps their hope alive for the knockouts after the late winner against Scotland in the last group stage game of the UEFA Euro 2024. The game was end to end with both teams desperate to win the game to keep their hopes for the next round. The two teams were fighting for the third-best position in Group A as both sides lost two games each. The Magyars were third in the table in goal difference.

The game was 0-0 in the first half as both sides failed to open the scoring in the match. There was a mishap during the game in the near the 70th minute Liverpool midfielder Dominik Szoboszlai delivered a free kick inside the box and Scotland's goalkeeper Angus Gunn rushed out and punched the ball away, but during the very incident he collided with Barnabas Varga, who remained down and went unconscious with the medical team rushed into the pitch.

Then Hungary's players quickly gathered their teammates, and a huge sheet was brought out to offer privacy as medical personnel treated him. He was stretched off the field in a hurry. Scotland believed they deserved a penalty when substitute Stuart Armstrong was hauled down in the penalty area, but the referee rejected their appeal.

Will Hungary qualify for the knockouts?

The game flowed with both sides missing the one pass in the final third that would lead them to the goal. The fans also knew that the game would end in a draw until Kevin Csoboth scored in the dying minutes to end Scotland's dreams of making the knock-out stages. The 24-year-old just guided the ball into the net from the low cross of Roland Sallai, breaking thousands of Scottish fans' hearts.

However, only four of the six teams from third place will go through to the knockout stages. Hungary needs to do a lot of calculations to get their ticket booked for the RO16 fixtures. They stand with 3 points and with other teams having one game left they have better chances of surpassing their points or having a better goal difference than them.
