After gaining possession of the ball inside the England half, Trent Alexander-Arnold skilfully sent a long through ball across the Ireland center-backs. Anthony Gordon was at the end of that, and he raced right through and saved his shot.

Nevertheless, England manages to recover it once more, and Harry Kane's attempt is blocked. Declan Rice, though, was closing the distance to side-foot it towards the upper corner. Declan Rice, however, decided not to celebrate the goal considering it was against his former country, which he has represented at the youth level and main stage as well.

It was one-touch football all around as Declan Rice and Kobbie Mainoo traded passes. The Arsenal forward then broke free into the box, played another one-two with Bukayo Saka, and slid a cutback over to Grealish, who sent it into the opposite corner for a 2-0 score.

Interim manager Lee Carsley makes wholesome changes

The first game of England's new UEFA Nations League season, and their first match under acting manager Lee Carsley, is taking place in Dublin against the Republic of Ireland. This contest is the first since Gareth Southgate's final game in charge of the Three Lions, the 2-1 loss to Spain during the Euro 2024 final.

This evening marks Lee Carsley's first opportunity to choose a team alongside his new nation. He has chosen to alter Gareth Southgate's starting lineup for the Euro 2024 championship by five players.

Phil Foden, Kyle Walker, Luke Shaw, John Stones, Jude Bellingham, Trent Alexander-Arnold, Harry Maguire, Jack Grealish, Anthony Gordon, and Levi Colwill all out of the lineup. Despite not even being included in Southgate's team for the Euros, Grealish makes a noteworthy comeback to the starting XI for Man City.

Immediately after, Carsley started to focus on the future, bringing into his first senior team the uncapped trio of Angel Gomes, Noni Madueke, Morgan Gibbs-White, and Tino Livramento. All four were on the winning U21 European Championship team, and they will be looking to establish themselves on the international scene by joining a team full of seasoned players.
