At Charlotte, North Carolina's Bank of America Stadium on Wednesday, Uruguay and Colombia are facing each other in a Copa America 2024 semifinal. Both teams have been named among the favorites to win the trophy this year, except Argentina, who will play the winner of this match in the championship.

The South American teams are full of quality and have individuals who can change the course of the game in an instant. There were some thrilling moments in the final five minutes just before half-time of Colombia vs. Uruguay's Copa America semi-final. With little opportunities for either team to score, the first half was jam-packed with action.

Rodriguez opened Copa America 2024 with two assists in Colombia's opening group game against Paraguay. He subsequently scored one more against Costa Rica and twice more in the quarterfinals versus Panama.

Colombia's jubilation was cut short shortly after the score as they were reduced to ten men. Daniel Munoz was sent off for elbowing Manuel Ugarte despite already having a yellow card. Munoz received his second yellow card just before halftime for elbowing a Uruguayan player in the chest during a call dispute, which resulted in his ejection.

Munoz begged the referee, saying he was elbowing the Uruguayan player because he was being squeezed in the ribs, but he was still issued a red card. With a goal advantage, Colombia will now need to play the remainder of the match with 10 players.

James Rodriguez recorded his sixth assist

In contrast, Colombia led 1-0 against Uruguay in the 2024 Copa America quarterfinal thanks to a goal from Crystal Palace's Jefferson Lerma. James Rodriguez recorded his sixth assist against Uruguay in the Copa America 2024 semifinal, becoming the player with the most assists in a single campaign in the competition's history. He surpassed Lionel Messi's record for most assists in a single Copa America campaign in 2021, when the Argentinian had five during the Albiceleste's title-winning season.
