Cristiano Ronaldo made fun of Wojciech Szczesny, a newcomer at FC Barcelona and a former teammate, by claiming that he "needed to retire to go to a big club." After his Juventus contract was terminated in the summer of 2024, former Poland international Szczesny made the decision to put up his boots. The former Arsenal goalie collaborated with five-time Ballon d'Or winner Ronaldo while he was with the Bianconeri.

The 34-year-old Szczesny was only out of commission for a few weeks before he was given the chance to join Barcelona, one of the biggest teams in La Liga. After Marc-Andre ter Stegen suffered a serious knee injury, they discovered themselves in the market for a replacement goalkeeper, despite the European transfer window being closed.

Szczesny is anticipated to make his debut when domestic play in Spain starts after agreeing to a short-term contract with FC Barcelona. The seasoned goalie had a reunion with Ronaldo in the international break when Poland played Portugal during the UEFA Nations League.

Following Ronaldo's goal in his nation's 3-1 victory, Szczesny gave his legendary former teammate a hug during post-match chitchat. Ronaldo was caught on hand teasing the former Arsenal goalkeeper as he said, “You had to retire to go to a big club.”

After winning the FA Cup twice with Arsenal, Szczesny went on to win three Serie A championships and an equal number of Coppa Italia winners' medals with Juventus. He was a surprising addition to Hansi Flick's team and now has the opportunity to help Barca win La Liga and the Champions League in 2024–25.

“I won't tell anybody” : Wojciech Szczesny

Szczesny was seen on camera informing the five-time winner of the Ballon d'Or that his kid is a fan and requested an autograph when they played together at Juventus. Given the intense rivalry between FC Barcelona and Real Madrid, the goalie quipped that he "won't tell anybody" at that point.

Szczesny informed Cristiano Ronaldo by saying, "I play for Barcelona now." Ronaldo responded: " I know." Szczesny continued: "But he [his son] is one of your fans. Don't worry, I won't tell anybody. Ronaldo replied by saying that, "Unbelievable, from retirement to a big club."
