Cristiano Ronaldo posted with the UEFA Champions League trophy on Instagram. Ronaldo posted with the caption, “Best friends forever. 183 matches, 140 goals, 5 🏆”

The captain of Portugal, gained additional recognition on Thursday in Monaco when he was given a special award by UEFA in recognition of his outstanding contributions to the top continental championship. At the top of the scoring lists, the former forward for Sporting Clube de Portugal, Manchester United, Real Madrid, and Juventus is 11 goals ahead of Lionel Messi and 46 goals ahead of Robert Lewandowski, who is in third place.

The Portugal forward is the only individual so far to have tallied in three different UEFA Champions League finals. He won the trophy first with Manchester United then four times with Real Madrid, making him the first-ever five-time winner in the league's history.

The former Manchester United superstar spoke after getting the award as he said,“For me, it’s a pleasure to be here. Thank you for this amazing award. As you know, Champions League is the highest in football. The records speak for themselves but the league (is at that level) because of the players that play in the competition. I have nice memories coming to this gala and football is managed by memories. So, thank you for this.”

“The first one is always the special one, when I was in Manchester” : Cristiano Ronaldo

Having scored in 11 straight UEFA Champions League games from June 2017 to April 2018, he now owns the record for the longest scoring streak. Incredibly, Ronaldo has notched eight UEFA Champions League hat-tricks.

The Al-Nassr Superstar said, “The first one is always the special one, when I was in Manchester. Of course, Real Madrid was differently special, winning four times there. At that time, in Lisbon in 2018, I remember I felt like the most expensive player in the world and there was pressure about winning the Champions League. But I think goals and trophies are like ketchup, once it start coming, they keep coming.”
