In front of his loving home crowd in Portugal, Cristiano Ronaldo recorded his 900th goal in his career. With a wonderful cross from Nuno Mendes' left side in the 34th minute of the game, the eager goal scorer had been waiting near the far post. In a perfectly executed volley, he defeated Dominic Livakovic and the goalkeeper stood no chance. The great player collapsed to his knees, covering his face to contain his joyous cries, and went to the right corner in celebration.

Portugal's first goal in the UEFA Nations League was scored by Diogo Dalot. In order to get Portugal off to a quick start here in Lisbon, he placed the ball inside the penalty area on the left side and managed to direct it past Livakovic. Another round of questioning from the host team precedes the goal. Dalot took the ball on calmly before slipping past the Croatian custodian.
Benjamin Sosa was positioned close to the left post when Andre Kramaric played the ball over to him. Sosa fails to direct the ball towards Mario Pasalic and instead found Dalot's leg, who then puts it into his own net. Although the Manchester United full-back has already scored twice during this game, the second goal will probably go down as less significant.
Even though there is just one goal separating the two teams, the hosts will continue to be cautious about Croatia's potential to mount a comeback.
