Plymouth Argyle faced Liverpool at Home Park in the FA Cup fourth round on Sunday. Having advanced past Brentford in the previous round, Plymouth was determined to make a statement against the formidable Reds, who had humbled fourth-tier side Accrington Stanley in their last match.
However, the Pilgrims were struggling, managing to secure only two victories in their last 17 matches across all competitions. Their recent home form was concerning, with two scoreless games out of three and a total of seven goals conceded. To stand a chance against a Liverpool side in red-hot form, Plymouth needed to deliver an extraordinary performance.

Plymouth took a stunning lead in the second half
Liverpool dominated the match right from the start with more possession and shots on target. However, all of their attempts went in vain as they failed to breach Plymouth's defences in the first half as the scoreline remained 0-0.
Things changed dramatically in the second half as the hosts intensified their counterattacks. In the 53rd minute, a blatant handball by Harvey Elliott inside Liverpool's box resulted in a penalty for Plymouth. The away side protested, but the evidence was clear: Elliott had his arms raised above his head when Gyabi’s volley struck him. Ryan Hardie stepped up to take the penalty and sent Kelleher the wrong way! With Hardie going left and Liverpool's goalkeeper diving right, the Championship's bottom team seized the lead.
The hosts came close to scoring another in the 62nd minute, but the ball ricocheted off the woodwork, and Liverpool sighed a breath of relief. Liverpool tried to breach the host's defences, but Plymouth defended in low blocks and parked the bus just beyond their box. The hosts survived the remaining minutes and stunned the Premier League table-toppers 1-0.
