Real Madrid vs Borussia Dortmund

The UEFA Champions League made a comeback earlier today, and on Tuesday night, Borussia Dortmund, the league's current leaders, played Real Madrid in a rematch of the previous season's final.

Donyell Malen's tap-in gave Borussia Dortmund the lead over Real Madrid during the UEFA Champions League. After a quick pass, the Borussia Dortmund attacker got the ball near the penalty spot and then held play up with incredible strength and technique until Malen tapped in a flawless pass that slipped sideways.

At the Santiago Bernabeu, Borussia Dortmund easily doubled their lead against Real Madrid. From the right flank, Malen charged into the box and slipped a low pass across the goal's face, where Jamie Bynoe-Gittens tapped it in.

A few minutes later, on the stretch, Rodrygo banged an effort off the bar after latching onto a ball in the area. Jude Bellingham received the deflected ball and smashed his attempt off the goal's underside.Β

Julian Brandt deflected a Real Madrid attempt up and almost over his goalkeeper, Gregore Kobel, as the ball was sent towards goal once more. Real Madrid is denied a goal before halftime thanks to a brilliant fingertip save.

What’s at stake for Real Madrid and Borussia Dortmund in the UCL?

With one victory and one defeat to start their UEFA Champions League campaign, Real Madrid were looking to grab three points versus Borussia Dortmund in order to increase their chances of placing in the top eight. However, being 2-0 down to the opposition at home is not a good sign for the defending champions.

Although Borussia Dortmund has had a difficult season while away from home in the German Bundesliga, a solid showing in Madrid would be a major testament to their abilities. They have, however, performed admirably against the unsteady Real Madrid defense thus far during the first half. It would be interesting to see if they would be able to keep up with their stunning play in the second half.
