Aston Villa's Jhon Duran delivered a remarkable long-range winner, adding to Everton's woes in a thrilling five-goal encounter. Everton, having squandered a 2-0 lead against Bournemouth in their previous match, experienced a repeat setback at Villa Park last Saturday.

Following their 3-2 loss to Bournemouth, Everton surrendered another 2-0 advantage against Villa, resulting in them languishing at the bottom of the table after four matches. Goals from Dwight McNeil and Dominic Calvert-Lewin propelled Everton to a 2-0 lead within the initial 27 minutes, prompting optimism among their supporters for an end to their three-match losing streak this season.

Watkins and Duran dragged out victory from jaws of defeat

Nevertheless, Ollie Watkins ignited the comeback by securing his first top-flight goal of the campaign in the 36th minute.

Watkins then scored the equalizer at the hour mark, and then stunningly rescuing Villa, substitute Duran proved his worth once again.

With a scorching strike from 35 yards out, Duram found the top left corner in the 75th minute, leaving Jordan Pickford no chance, just moments after Everton squandered a key chance.

Duran has shown his value as a super sub for Villa this season, scoring winning goals against West Ham and Leicester last month, and now against Everton.

Of players who have scored eight or more Premier League goals, only Matt Derbyshire (90%) has scored a higher percentage as a substitute than Duran (88%).
