Liverpool faced off Sheffield United at Anfield on Thursday. The Reds started off as 2nd in the league table with one game being played less than Arsenal. They started the game exactly the coach wanted, pressing high up the pitch. The press helped them open the scoring in the 17th minute from a mistake from the Sheffield goalkeeper Ivo Grbic who while clearing the ball ended up hitting Uruguay striker Darwin Nunez’s back that ended in the back of the net.

The Blades did not concede further in the first half. The visitors started the second half well as they equalised in the early stages of the half from the header of Gustavo Hamer which got deflected from the legs of Conor Bradley and ended up in the goal. After scoring they kept on piling the pressure but failed to have the one final pass in the attacking third. As the game was flowing the commentators were also feeling that the home team would drop the points.

But all the predictions went wrong after Argentina midfielder Alexis Mac Allister lifted the crowd off at Anfield when he blasted a volley in the 76th minute of the game straight into the top right corner from the edge of the box to give the Reds the lead once more. He did not have the best of the game but had a clutch moment where he gave his side the most important lead back in the title race for this season.

MacAllister shines underpressure

MacAllister has been brilliant throughout the season for the Reds. He has been known for scoring such bangers and has done all his career with Brighton & Hove Albion FC. The 25-year-old World Cup winner has been the key in Liverpool’s midfield control with his ability of attacking and creating the game.

Cody Gakpo scored in the 90th minute to make the scoreline 3-1 and snatch all 3 points for the game and remain at the top of the table after matchday 30 with 70 points. The Reds are desparate to win the league this season in order to give a fairytale farewell to their head coach Jurgen Klopp
