UEFA Champions League Round of 16: Liverpool shocks PSG in last minute, 10-men Barcelona defeats Benfica

In Wednesday's first leg of their Champions League last-16 matchup, Liverpool defeated Paris Saint-Germain 1-0 thanks to an immediate impact from the bench and a goal with his first touch.Elliott gave the Premier League leaders a crucial lead ahead of their rematch at Anfield next week after latching onto a Darwin Nunez assist in the 87th minute after replacing Mohamed Salah.

However, PSG dominated the major part of the game but due to an unexpected turn of events at the Parc des Princes, they had to face defeat in the first leg. During the match, PSG had 28 shots on target but failed to put the ball in the back of Liverpool's net. Khvicha Kvaratskhelia's early goal was disallowed for offside. Both the team again meets at Anfield which will be very tough for PSG to win the second leg.

Raphinha's goals help Barcelona to win over Benfica

Barcelona defeated Benfica 1-0 in the Champions League on Wednesday night, thanks to an outstanding performance from Wojciech Szczesny.  Despite playing more than 70 minutes with 10 men, Barcelona fought to a tense 1-0 victory against Benfica in their Champions League last-16 first-leg match on Wednesday.Raphinha, a Brazilian attacker, gave the Spanish powerhouses a slim lead in the second half, setting up the rematch at Camp Nou the following week.

Raphinha took advantage of a defensive mistake in the 61st minute to score Barcelona's first goal. He pounced on a lost ball and sent a low, deflected effort past Anatoliy Trubin.His significance to the team's offensive efforts was further highlighted by the goal, which was his tenth in as many Champions League outings.Barca will now play Osasuna at home in La Liga before returning to play Benfica on Tuesday.

Harry Kane's brace gives Bayern Munich a win over Bayer Leverkusen

Harry Kane scored twice as Bayern Munich easily defeated Bayer Leverkusen 3-0 in the first leg of their Champions League last-16 match on Wednesday at the Allianz Arena.Bayern, who had lost six of their previous meetings against Xabi Alonso's team, dominated right away and established a strong lead to advance to the quarterfinals.

Just nine minutes in, Harry Kane put the first goal past goalkeeper Matej Kovar after rising to meet a well-placed cross from Michael Olise.  Matej Kovar, the regular backup to Leverkusen captain Lukas Hradecky, made a goalkeeping gaffe early in the second half, which Jamal Musiala was well-positioned to take advantage of. Not quite reaching his full height, Kovar let a tame Joshua Kimmich cross slip him. 

Jamal Musiala was grateful and tapped home when the ball fell at his feet.  Kane's penalty kick later in the 74th minute of the game put Bayern on track to win the match and preserve the hope of playing in this season's final in Munich. It was his 30th consecutive penalty since he missed for England against France in the 2022 World Cup.
