Gareth Southgate will finalise his England squad for UEFA Euro 2024 on Friday night, ahead of the formal announcement on Saturday. England defeated Bosnia and Herzegovina 3-0 at St James' Park on Monday and will face Iceland at Wembley on Friday for their final warm-up before the tournament. The squad has to be presented to UEFA following the game, before the Football Association reveals the 26 players that qualified for the European Championship in Germany the next day.

Marcus Rashford, Jordan Henderson, and Ben Chilwell were dropped by the manager when he selected an initial 33-man training group, which featured young players like Liverpool's Jarell Quansah and Curtis Jones, Crystal Palace's Adam Wharton, and Burnley goalkeeper James Trafford.

Southgate's team is one of the favourites to capture the championship on July 14, considering their recent record in major competitions and the remarkable quality of their attacking players this season, notably Harry Kane, Jude Bellingham, Bukayo Saka, Cole Palmer, and Phil Foden. They have been drawn in Group C against Slovenia, Denmark, and Serbia, but Southgate must first pick on his final team, and there is still tough contention for the tournament's 26 berths.

Who will make the starting XI for the opening game at the UEFA Euro 2024 for England?

Once the team is decided, the England team manager can have a shot at picking his best players for the opening game of the tournament. Most of the line-up chooses itself as the manager tends to go for his preferred players more often than not.

One of the debates is whether Trent Alexander-Arnold should start in midfield ahead of youngster Kobbie Mainoo, who had a terrific campaign for Manchester United. Another issue might be who starts on the wings for the team as the majority of the wingers are coming into the tournament on the back of impressive campaigns.

Predicted XI : - Jordan Pickford, Kyle Walker, Harry Maguire, John Stones, Kieran Trippier, Trent Alexander-Arnold, Jude Bellingham, Declan Rice, Phil Foden, Bukayo Saka, Harry Kane (C)
