Sunil Chhetri hopeful of 'solid fix sooner rather than later' for ISL's suspension (X)
Overview
- The Indian Super League has been temporarily suspended due to the disagreement between AIFF and FSDL
- The two sides have failed to strike a new MRA, as the existing one ends by December 2025
- Sunil Chhetri took to X and hoped to find a 'solid fix sooner rather than later'
Sunil Chhetri took to X and opened up on the temporary suspension of the Indian Super League for the foreseeable future. The All India Football Federation (AIFF) and Football Sports Development Limited (FSDL), who signed a joint Master Rights Agreement (MRA) for funding the ISL together till December 2025, haven't come up with the new rights.
Chhetri posted on the issue on his social media handle and agreed that the situation is indeed concerning. He claimed to have received messages from physios, players, staff members, and others from Bengaluru FC and other clubs about the future of the league. He understood that there is a worry among everyone about the future of the league.
However, Chhetri was hopeful that the people in power are trying to get the Football season up with negotiations and new rights and felt the issue would get a solid fix sooner rather than later. The former Indian Football skipper's message was received well by the fans and everyone else involved with the ISL and the Indian Football.
"The current situation that Indian football finds itself in is very concerning. I’ve received a flurry of texts from players, staff members, physios, masseurs – not just from my club, but from other clubs as well. Everybody in the Indian football ecosystem is worried, hurt, and scared about the uncertainty we are faced with," wrote Chhetri on X."I know that the think tank and all those involved in running the sport are working to get the football season up and running, and I’m hopeful that there is a solid fix sooner rather than later," Chhetri added in his statement on X.
"Football has to resume soon. It will" - Sunil Chhetri
While Chhetri claimed to have no answers about the questions he has been receiving about the future of the league, he asked them to stay calm and extended his support in the difficult times. Chhetri's message for the players, staff, kitmen, masseurs, medical teams, production crews, and operations staff was to keep training and getting better.
"I may not have all the answers, but my message to all those involved with Indian football – and more importantly, the ones whose livelihood depends on it, the players, staff, kitmen, masseurs, medical teams, production crews, operations staff – please stay calm. We’ll ride this storm together. Stick together and look out for each other. Keep training and getting better. Football has to resume soon. It will," Chhetri added in his statement.
