Overview
- Donald Trump considered changing American Soccer to Football
- The US President attended the FIFA Club World Cup final 2025 between PSG and Chelsea at the MetLife Stadium
- The USA, Canada, and Mexico are slated to jointly host the FIFA World Cup 2026
Donald Trump was present at the MetLife Stadium in New Jersey, where the FIFA Club World Cup final 2025 took place between PSG and Chelsea on the 13th of July. The US President was interviewed by DAZN, the popular global sports streaming service, where he was asked if he would consider passing an executive order to rename American Soccer as Football in the USA.
Trump accepted the confusion in the nomenclature of the most popular sport in the world, as he agreed that countries like the USA, Canada, and Australia call it Soccer, while a majority of other parts of the world call it Football. Trump felt that he could change it and accepted Football to be a great sport to watch.

"I think we can do that. I think I could do that. They call it 'football,' but I guess we call it 'soccer.' That change could be made very easily. But it’s great to watch," said Trump while watching the FIFA Club World Cup 2025 final between PSG and Chelsea.

Chelsea scripted history, as they became the first and only English club to date to win the FIFA Club World Cup twice (2021 and 2025). Trump handed over the trophy and was even present at the desk when the players celebrated their win. Cole Palmer, the key player of Chelsea's win, did not expect Trump to pull off something like it.

The naming of Football might be necessary, as the 2026 FIFA World Cup will be jointly hosted by the North American countries, Canada, Mexico, and the USA, where Football is called Soccer. To avoid confusion, it could be better to use a single name to term the sports in all parts of the world.
