As the 2023-24 Premier League season comes to an end, we try to pick out the best and the worst players of the season in our very own segment. The SportsInfo Awards for the current edition of the English Premier League are here as we look back at the ongoing season and some of the best players that lit up the competition this season.

We would be looking at five major categories and to choose the winner out of this was a very tough decision. With plenty of options to choose from for each category, we have also awarded an honourable mention so that most of the fan bases can keep peace with our decisions. Without further ado, let’s take a look at the best and the worst players from the current English Premier League season.

Here are the SportsInfo awards for the 2023-24 English Premier League season

Player of the season : Phil Foden

This season, Foden has scored 16 goals in the Premier League, which is a record for him, and there may still be a lot more to come. In an all-star Manchester City team, the England player has emerged as the most feared player and currently seems unstoppable.

Throughout the Guardiola era, City has been fortunate to have a number of creative geniuses, but Foden is quickly surpassing them all. Even at the age of 23, he already appears to be a fully fledged player, and City now looks to him to start games because of his quickness of thinking and athleticism when in possession.

Honourable Mention : Erling Haaland

Flop of the season: Moises Caicedo

Moises Caicedo had very high expectations, maybe unjustly, but there are certain standards you have to meet as among the most expensive players in Premier League history. The youthful Ecuadorian international hasn't been able to meet the anticipation thus far. Caicedo has appeared off the pace thus far this season, which may be attributed to both the absence of a preseason and Chelsea's overall bad play.

Naturally, the defensive midfielder has struggled horribly for the Blues, but he has been far from Declan Rice's game-changing and stabilising qualities for Arsenal. Considering his exorbitant contract, Caicedo has to rank as the season's biggest failure to yet.

Honourable Mention : Marcus Rashford

Most Improved Player : Harry Maguire

Maguire's comeback has been nothing less than remarkable following a period of severe scrutiny and criticism that saw him lose the Manchester United armband and come dangerously close to quitting Old Trafford. His contributions in November were crucial to Manchester United's defensive stability as the side finished the month without giving up a goal in the league.

Harry Maguire has emerged as the defence's leader as a result of his stellar recent performance for Manchester United. In addition, he received recognition for winning the November Premier League Player of the Month accolade. He has also added goals to his game which is always a positive for the side.

Honourable Mention : Kai Havertz

Unsung Hero : Ollie Watkins

Since his arrival, Watkins has been the primary goal scorer for Aston Villa. This season, the 28-year-old has already scored 19 goals, and his most recent spectacular strike at the Emirates sealed Villa's decisive victory over Arsenal. In the interim, he has also succeeded in putting on additional 12 for his teammates, drawing the attention of England manager Gareth Southgate.

Due to Watkins' relentlessness, Villa has slowed down at the top of the league, which was always likely given their weak roster, but they continue to be very much on track for a top-four finish. And the Villa talisman will undoubtedly reserve a spot on the flight to Germany this summer with his nation if he can continue to deliver the goods.

Honourable Mention : Kobbie Mainoo

Signing of the season : Cole Palmer

Palmer, who bravely decided to leave Manchester City in the summer of last year in quest of consistent playing time, has subsequently shown to be Chelsea FC's best deal of the season at £42.5 million ($54 million). The 21-year-old has been the Blues' most encouraging player throughout yet another disappointing season, playing a key role in Mauricio Pochettino's lineup and displaying maturity and skill beyond his years.

Palmer has been used by the Argentine in a variety of places, and each time, he has responded to the occasion. His skill with the ball gives Chelsea's offence a fresh perspective. It will be interesting to watch how he develops at Stamford Bridge over the next few months.

Honourable Mention : Declan Rice
