The English top flight's lowest-ranked club this season, Southampton, made fun of Derby County following their goalless draw against Manchester City. The club currently sits at the bottom of the EPL, standing in 2024-25.

Manchester City visited Saint Mary's Stadium to face Southampton on Saturday. The visitors returned, taking only one point from the fixture, which may put out a serious dent in their UCL qualifications for next season.

Southampton poked fun at Derby County after the draw against Manchester City

Southampton is confirmed to be relegated at the end of the season. The club has long seemed poised to challenge Derby's record of 11 points from the 2006-07 campaign, a dismal season that saw them make an immediate return to the Championship.

A draw against the former Premier League Champions, Manchester City, ensured Southampton took the most important point that would help them go past the record of the team with the lowest tally of points in a season of Premier League football. Before the match, Southampton were tied with Derby County's 2006-07 tally of 11 points.

“Sorry if we got your hopes up, Derby,” Southampton posted on X, formerly Twitter, after securing the draw.

Despite facing a technically superior opposition, Southampton showcased tremendous discipline in their defence and denied Pep Guardiola's side a cakewalk at St Mary's Stadium. The draw ensured Southampton did not end the season with the lowest points in the history of the Premier League.

“People thought we would get zero points for the rest of the season, it was down to us. Everyone knows it's been a difficult season for us. The sun was shining, Man City threw everything at us. That one was for the fans." Ramsdale said after the match.

Southampton can end the season on a better note if they can bag some more points in their last two outings at this season's Premier League. They will next take on Everton and Arsenal on their final two matchday.
