The father of Spurs star Son Heung-min has been directed by a South Korean court to remit a fine of three million won ($2,220) for breaching child welfare laws at his football school, as per reports.

Why was Son's Father Fined?

Son Woong-Jung, a former footballer, who authored a best-selling memoir chronicling his role in nurturing his son into one of the premier strikers in the English Premier League, has been held accountable for the violation.

Earlier this year, a young player at a football academy was reportedly hit by coach Son Heung-yun, who is the brother of a well-known player. The incident resulted in a large bruise on the player's left thigh. Additionally, the student and his teammates allegedly experienced verbal abuse from Son Senior, as reported by the player's family.

As a result, Son Woong-Jung, Son Heung-yun, and another individual were each ordered to pay three million won for violating child welfare law, according to Yonhap news agency and other South Korean media sources.

The three individuals eligible to appeal have also been mandated to participate in 40 hours of educational sessions on child abuse.

The Chuncheon District Court's ruling on Friday came after the prosecution's indictment of the three on August 30, during which they urged the court to levy fines.

Son Woong-jung has apologized for the situation and mentioned that the coaching staff at his academy always acted with love for the children. However, AFP reached out to the court and the lawyers representing both sides but did not receive a reply.
