Sir Alex Ferguson will conclude his role as Manchester United ambassador at the end of the season.

Since retiring as manager in 2013, Ferguson has received a multi-million-pound sum for his contributions. At 82 years old, he has served as a global ambassador and club director, consistently supporting the team at games and holding a seat in the directors' box. His impact on the club during this time has been significant and will be remembered fondly.

Sources indicate that Sir Alex Ferguson, Manchester United's most successful manager, will always hold a cherished place at Old Trafford. The recent decision to part ways was made amicably following a productive discussion between Ferguson and co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe last week.

This move coincides with Ratcliffe’s efforts to streamline costs to allocate more funds for team development. So far, over 250 staff members have been laid off, a strategic decision aimed at saving approximately £10 million annually.

Last month, United reported a net loss of £113 million. While this figure is approaching the Premier League's three-year loss limit of £115 million, the club has expressed its dedication to complying with the established regulations.

Ten Hag's take on this move

Erik ten Hag acknowledges the significant pressures associated with managing Manchester United but remains realistic about the team's current capabilities compared to the illustrious standards set by Sir Alex Ferguson.

Ten Hag emphasized Ferguson’s importance to the club while recognizing that the decision is also aligned with the organization’s financial strategy.

“Of course, it has an impact on us," Ten Hag said.

"Sir Alex, of course, is Man United, he built United to where the club it is now and it impacts us. But on the other side, we know and Sir Alex knows, that is what he wants. He wants to see a winning Manchester United and I’m sure he’s always available for every advice and we will need him, definitely, in the short-term, as we did in the last two-and-a-half years I am here." - he added.
