Teddy Sheringham expressed that Cristiano Ronaldo would bring great value to Manchester United if he were to return, noting that his legacy could mirror that of David Beckham.
The Portuguese legend has experienced two significant stints at Old Trafford. During his first, he achieved remarkable success, including winning the Premier League, Champions League, and the prestigious Ballon d’Or. His second tenure, however, concluded on a sad note.
Sheringham's take on Ronaldo's potential future role in the sport
At the age of 39, Ronaldo continues to impress as a key contributor to both Al-Nassr and the Portugal national team, showcasing his remarkable goal-scoring abilities. However, thoughts of retirement are starting to creep into the conversation. There is growing speculation about his plans once he decides to hang up his boots for good.
One potential path for Ronaldo is a transition into coaching, especially with discussions surrounding former Sporting boss Ruben Amorim potentially taking the reins at Manchester United. This could present an intriguing opportunity for Ronaldo to join him, given their shared background.
Additionally, 1999 Treble winner Teddy Sheringham suggests that Ronaldo might consider following in the footsteps of another legendary United No. 7, who is now collaborating with Lionel Messi in Major League Soccer.
“Cristiano Ronaldo would be very welcome back at Manchester United under Ruben Amorim, but he is onto bigger and better things. I think that Ronaldo will follow in the path of David Beckham in doing things away from coaching, higher profile things around the world. I'm sure he'd be very, very welcome in any capacity coming back to the club, but I doubt that he'll be a coach.” Sheringham said.
Currently, Ronaldo is focused on achieving the humongous milestone of 1,000 career goals. He views potential coaching or club investment opportunities as options to explore in the future. Meanwhile, it will be interesting to see how long Amorim continues in his role at United, as he prepares for the challenges that come with one of the most demanding positions in the Premier League.
