Real Madrid's ace striker Rodrygo is set to miss Saturday’s La Liga match against Girona due to a muscular issue. The club has confirmed that the Brazil international was a late addition to the list of absentees because of some amount of discomfort in his left leg which may hinder his on-field performance.
Young striker Gonzalo Garcia and midfielder Chema Andres have both been withdrawn from the squad as well.
Rodrygo was injured after making a comeback
On a positive note, Rodrygo did make his comeback from injury at the beginning of December. He had missed two matches for Madrid and the international fixtures with Brazil in November due to a muscular injury. Additionally, he was sidelined by a hamstring issue during October’s Clasico.
Carlo Ancelotti has included young Yanez in the squad, although it's almost certain he won't replace Rodrygo on the pitch.
It will be intriguing to see the starting team lineup. Rodrygo is set to be a guaranteed starter, and the current injuries leave Ancelotti with limited options for the attacking formation. Brahim Diaz stands out as the top candidate to step in for Rodrygo.
The 23-year-old has participated in 17 matches across all competitions this season, netting three goals and two assists.
Real Madrid's 2024-25 campaign has faced challenges with injuries, prompting the club to bring on nutritionist Itziar Gonzalez de Arriba. The strategic move aimed to tackle the injury crisis the team has experienced, in a bid to enhance their overall performance.
Some light at the end of the tunnel for Real Madrid
In positive news for Madrid, it was announced on Friday that Vinicius Junior is making excellent progress in his recovery from a hamstring injury. Although he will not be available for Saturday’s match against Girona, he is optimistic about making a return for the upcoming games, potentially against Atalanta on Tuesday or Rayo Vallecano the following weekend.
