Rodrygo expresses his disappointment after not making it to Ballon d'Or nominations

Real Madrid's and Brazilian national team forward, Rodrygo, expresses his disappointment after being left out of the final 30-man Ballon d’Or shortlist, suggesting that his versatility might have played a role in the decision. 

According to reports by Reuters, the Brazilian player emphasized that his ability to play in different positions might have affected his chances of making the prestigious list. Despite scoring 17 goals and providing nine assists in 51 appearances for the club last season, he was not included in the shortlist. Meanwhile, his Madrid teammates Vinicius Junior, Jude Bellingham, Dani Carvajal, Federico Valverde, Antonio Rudiger, and the now-retired Toni Kroos all received nominations. Real Madrid's newest addition, star striker Kylian Mbappe, has also been included in the top 30 nominations.

Rodrygo 'Surprised and Upset' after not making it into top 30 nominations

During an interview with ESPN, Rodrygo expressed his confidence in being included in the top 30 nominations. While he didn't want to downplay the achievements of others who made the list, he admitted to feeling surprised and disappointed about not being included. Primarily known as a winger on the left side of the pitch, Rodrygo is also utilized as a second striker at Real Madrid.

Rodrygo emphasized his versatility, stating that he excels at adapting to different positions on the field based on the team's needs. He views himself as a team player. The Brazilian star is determined to once again achieve success and win trophies with his team, Real Madrid.

In an interview with ESPN, Rodrygo said, “I was upset, I think I deserved it. I don’t want to belittle the players who are there, I think they deserve it also. But I think I had a place in the 30. It was a surprise but there is not much I can do as I’m not the one who decides these things. Often, I’m just filling spaces."

 “Is someone missing there? Put Rodrygo in. Is someone missing on the right? Rodrygo. Is someone missing as number nine? Rodrygo That’s it," Rodrygo further added. The winner of the prestigious Ballon d'Or will be announced on October 28th, 2024.
