Real Madrid star Raul Asencio is poised to go on trial for charges related to child pornography. The defender is accused of distributing images and a video involving a minor and will appear in court in the Canary Islands. Three former Real Madrid reserve players are also implicated in the case, having reportedly taken and recorded the content. While the 21-year-old Asencio is not considered responsible for capturing the images, he is alleged to have had access to them and to have shared them with others.

Asencio to Face Trials

There are allegations that the players misled the involved girls by stating that the material had been deleted. Asencio reportedly sought to be excluded from the trial, but the court denied this request. If he is found guilty of disseminating child pornography, he could face a prison sentence of up to five years.

In September 2023, the Spanish newspaper El Confidencial broke the story regarding a serious investigation by the Civil Guard in Las Palmas. The report reveals that several players from Madrid's football scene were implicated in the case, leading to the arrest of at least four individuals for allegedly disclosing sensitive information of a sexual nature. El Confidencial reported that the players in question were associated with Real Madrid’s renowned La Fabrica academy and its reserve team, before their identities being disclosed.

Eventually, Asencio was identified, and two women involved in the video, including one who was a minor, subsequently came forward with accusations against Ferran Ruiz, Juan Rodriguez, and Andres Garcia. Asencio was called to provide testimony as a witness in the case but subsequently became the subject of an investigation himself. Although Asencio has requested for the charges against him to be dismissed, the Provincial Court of Las Palmas has decided to continue with the proceedings. He is currently facing allegations of having accessed the video and sharing it with a third party without obtaining the victims’ consent.

In Spain, a conviction for any crime related to child pornography carries a maximum penalty of five years in prison.
