Real Madrid is reportedly looking to acquire Bayern Munich full-back Alphonso Davies when the transfer window opens in January 2025. The 24-year-old is currently in the final year of his contract with the Bavarian club. Since joining the Bundesliga giants from Vancouver in January 2019, Davies has established himself as a vital player in the first team.
Over his 210 appearances in various competitions, he has made significant contributions with 11 goals and 34 assists. This season, he has already provided three assists in 15 matches, showcasing his ongoing impact in Vincent Kompany's squad.
Davies and Bayern struggling to reach common grounds
The ongoing contract extension discussions for the Canadian player with Bayern have failed to make much progress. Meanwhile, Real Madrid is currently navigating through a challenging situation due to an injury crisis. As reported by Marca's Jose Diaz (via Madrid Xtra), there seems to be a positive outlook for both parties, with an agreement in place for Davies to join the Santiago Bernabeu in January. Additionally, it is also reported that Davies rejected the offer from other clubs like Barcelona and Manchester United.
Davies to rescue Real Madrid
This season, Carlo Ancelotti's team has faced significant injury setbacks, particularly in their defence line, with key players like Eder Militao, Dani Carvajal, and David Alaba sidelined due to ACL injuries. The potential addition of Davies could provide much-needed reinforcement to the squad.
Real Madrid halted their two-game losing streak with an emphatic 4-0 victory over Osasuna in La Liga last weekend. However, this win came at a significant cost, as they lost Rodrygo to injury, while Militao and Lucas Vazquez also suffered setbacks. According to The Athletic, Madrid is currently grappling with nine injured players, including goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois and several key defenders.
Update from Fabrizio Romano
Famous football transfer journalist Fabrizio Romano took to his X to share another important update in this transfer saga. Romano posted on his X that on having a conversation with Alphonso Davies's agent, the latter revealed that Davies has not concluded with any club.
He further revealed that Davies may even opt to extend his contract with Bayern Munich. Official confirmation still awaits from both the parties. “Though the player has many options, we have not agreed terms with any club, new deal at FC Bayern could also be an option. Any reports suggesting otherwise are incorrect”. Davies's agent said.
