Despite Bayer Leverkusen's outstanding season, the club may just be able to retain their best players in the coming summer. Xabi Alonso previously stated his wish to continue participating in the Bundesliga for the coming season, and Florian Wirtz should also stay in Leverkusen. However, Leverkusen's retentions for the summer can be viewed as a calm before the storm arrives, with Die Werkself poised to lose numerous players during the summer of 2025.

To that end, according to an article recently published from Sport BILD (h/t Madrid Xtra), Real Madrid remains the clear choice to recruit Florian Wirtz during the summer of 2025. The newly-crowned European champions have been attentively tracking Wirtz's growth at Leverkusen and believe he is a good long-term investment. It was reported that some of the top scouts of Real Madrid have been watching Wirtz play in the Bundesliga throughout the past year.

Real Madrid will face stiff competition, however, with Bayern Munich reportedly interested in the German international's talents. However, the article claims that Real Madrid is best positioned to sign Wirtz, possibly not this summer, but certainly in 2025, when the club ought to have the financial resources for completing yet another Galactico deal.

Xabi Alonso set to become Real Madrid manager in 2025?

According to the rumours, Florian Wirtz could end up with Xabi Alonso when he moves to Real Madrid. This is not that surprising given that Real Madrid appears to have devised a careful strategy for replacing Carlo Ancelotti, despite the fact that the Italian has recently led the team to win its 15th UEFA Champions League trophy.

Ancelotti's contract with Real Madrid concludes in 2026. However, if Real Madrid, which has been overhauled with the signing of Kylian Mbappe, fails to play well next season, Ancelotti may face intense criticism. To that reason, Xabi Alonso has emerged as the best long-term substitute for the Italian maestro, and he might very well oversee Real Madrid's next stage of development.
