Real Madrid has been dealt a blow as they are ready to board a plane for their preseason tour of the USA, as defender Jesus Vallejo had apparently suffered an injury. According to sources, the 27-year-old center back suffered a muscular injury during training, raising questions about his availability for his journey to the United States.

After playing on loan at Granada for the previous season, Vallejo returned to the team this summer with the intention of persuading Carlo Ancelotti to use him in the forthcoming campaign. It seemed inevitable that Vallejo would be the team's fourth-choice center back after Eder Militao, Antonio Rudiger, as well as the still-injured David Alaba in light of Nacho's departure and the club's inability to sign Leny Yoro.

However, Vallejo's injury would have simply served to highlight more concerns about Real Madrid's depth at the position of center back. The extent of the Spanish center-back's injury is unknown, but as of right now, it seems highly improbable that he will play in the preseason friendly. Given that Vallejo's contract expires the following year, it is unclear how this will affect him going forward.

Therefore, Ancelotti's only option to make up for the defensive shortages on the US tour will probably have to rely on academy players like Raul Asencio or Jacobo Ramon. In addition, it is likely that Joan Martinez, a 16-year-old center back prodigy, will visit the US as well, given that it was already reported that he will train with Castilla.

Jesus Vallejo posts tweet to ensure his availability for pre-season tour

Hours after reports started to flourish about the availability of Jesus Vallejo on the United States tour of Real Madrid, the defender cleared the air. There were claims from various sources that the defender is injured however the Spanish centre-back took to Twitter to make sure that everyone knows about his availability and preparation for the upcoming pre-season tour.

His tweet was in response to a Spanish media outlet claiming that he was injured and would not be part of the pre-season tour. The Real Madrid centre-back replied by saying that, “This information is not correct. I am not injured and I am travelling to the US tour."
