Rafael van der Vaart lambast Erling Haaland after dismal performance against Real Madrid in UCL

Erling Haaland would love to forget the night as he was not let to play at all by the Los Blancos centre-backs. Especially he was pocketed by Antonio Rudiger who did not let the Norwegian striker get a small amount of space.

Manchester City travelled at Santiago Bernabeu to face Real Madrid in the UEFA Champions League 1st leg quarter-finals. The game was an end-to-end one. City has been one of the most dominant sides over the past few years and has been difficult to beat. They showed the same on Tuesday night with Bernardo Silva silencing the Bernabeu crowd with his free-kick in the 2nd minute of the game after he caught goalkeeper Andriy Lunin off the goal line.

Madrid made a brilliant comeback as the side scored two goals within 3 minutes of the game and showed the world why they are the most successful side in UCL. Eduardo Camavinga's shot ended in the goal after it got deflected from Ruben Dias's shoulder with Stefan Ortega was helpless as he got committed towards the other side. Vinicius Jr played a brilliant through ball in the counter attack finding Rodrygo who did not make any mistake and put it back past the City goalkeeper.

Erling Haaland would love to forget the night as he was not let to play at all by the Los Blancos centre-backs. Especially he was pocketed by Antonio Rudiger who did not let the Norwegian striker get a small amount of space anywhere in the field and in the six-yard as well. He could only take one shot which was easily grabbed by Lunin, other than that he barely had a touch on the ball and lost position everytime he got the ball.

Erling Haaland's rough patch continues

Following his dismal performance in the big game former Real Madrid midfielder Rafael van der Vaart has lashed out at the 23-year-old forward, as the former Dutch footballer believes he is useless for the team until he finds the net and he is a very poor kind of player with the ball. This is not the first time that Haaland has been criticised by any former player or pundit.

Previously ex-Manchester United captain Roy Keane also lambasted the striker after he performed poorly in the game against Arsenal in the English Premier League (EPL). He was then marked by William Saliba and Gabriel Magalhães and failed to score for the side. Keane labelled him as a 'League 2' striker after the game.
