Qarabag's gaffer Gurban Gurbanov expressed his strong displeasure at the circumstances that led to a 35-minute delay before his team's match against Tottenham. The kick-off was delayed due to Qarabag's team bus being stuck in heavy traffic for over two-and-a-half hours, causing them to arrive at the ground only 15 minutes before the scheduled 8 pm start.
Gurbanov criticized the fact that his players were not provided with a police escort until the final mile, emphasizing that the delays had a significant impact on his players' preparation for the match.
Gurbanov's take on the situation
Gurbanov shared that his players were eagerly anticipating the match against the Premier League side. He noted that Tottenham's seasoned players made a significant impact on the game and recognized that his team missed several key scoring opportunities. Additionally, Gurbanov expressed his frustration at being stuck in traffic for nearly 2 and a half hours, which had a negative impact on his players' mindset. However, he emphasized that he did not want to detract from Tottenham's well-deserved victory.
"Imagine you are being caught in traffic for more than two-and-a-half hours. I don’t want to make excuses. It shouldn’t have happened. We had to come ourselves, there was no police to escort us. It had a big impact on our players. But that doesn’t take anything away from our opponent," Gurbanov said.
The Gaffer mentioned that his team didn't get ample time to prepare for the fixture after reaching the venue and that was one of the factors contributing to their lackluster show.
"As soon as we arrived, we were told in 40 minutes we had to start. We were not as prepared as we should have been. But these are things that happen," he added. Tottenham Hotspur defeated Quarabag 3-0. Quarabag had their fair share of chances but couldn't capitalise on any which left the side in distraught.
