PSG centre back Lucas Hernandez set to miss Euros 2024 due to ACL injury

The experienced defender's injury will be a huge setback for the club and for the national team with the Euros to take place in June. The France defender has torn his ACL and he will be out for the next 6 to 7 months.

Paris Saint-Germain travelled to Germany for their 1st leg semi-final clash against Borussia Dortmund at the Signal Iduna Park. The French champions after winning the league were high on confidence ahead of the game on Wednesday, but Edin Terzić's side was shocked yet again as they won the game by a slender goal from Niclas Fullkrug. They could have scored more goals but the Fullkrug missed two easy chances.

The visitors were denied twice by the post. PSG attackers could not breach the defence of the home side as they kept a clean sheet against the likes of Kylian Mbappe and Ousmane Dembele. However, to add to more misery for the French club their centre-back Lucas Hernandez was forced off due to injury. The France defender has torn his ACL and he will be out for the next 6 to 7 months. 

The experienced defender's injury will be a huge setback for the club and for the national team with the Euros to take place in June. The central defender fell awkwardly in order to prevent the German striker from opening the score. After which he could not continue and was substituted right ahead of the half time. He is set to undergo surgery on the issue. 

Lucas Hernandez set to miss Euro Cup

The club confirmed in the statement, "Lucas Hernández, who was injured during the UEFA Champions League match between Borussia Dortmund and Paris Saint-Germain, suffered a ruptured anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee. The MRI performed today confirmed the diagnosis established by the club’s doctors on Wednesday evening." 

France head coach Didier Deschamps is set to announce the squad on May 16. However, the team have options in the backline but the experience of the former Bayern Munich defender will surely be missed by the former World Cup winner. Previously also he ruptured at the 2022 World Cup in his right knee in France’s opening game against Australia. PSG's next game will be against Dortmund at home.
