Premier League suspends referee David Coote after inappropriate video gets leaked

After a video appeared to show Premier League referee David Coote disparaging former Liverpool head coach Jurgen Klopp on social media, Coote was suspended on Monday. Coote claimed Klopp was "arrogant" when he used foul language on the video, however it's unclear when it was created or how it got out. On Saturday, Coote, 42, officiated Liverpool's 2-0 victory over Aston Villa.

The clip that has been making the rounds on social media is reportedly known to Professional Game Match Officials Limited, who oversee the officiating of English football matches, and the subject is currently under investigation. Since then, PGMOL has suspended Coote and a further investigation is already underway. 

Shortly after serving as fourth official during one of Liverpool's games, Coote is shown on the disputed video calling the former Reds boss Klopp a "c*nt" and calling Liverpool "sh*t." Coote, a native of Nottinghamshire, has officiated Premier League games since April 2018. On Saturday, he presided over Liverpool's 2-0 victory against Aston Villa at Anfield, which put the Merseyside team five points ahead at the top of the Premier league standings.

Another statement later on added that : “PGMOL are aware of a video circulating on social media and are investigating. David Coote has been suspended with immediate effect pending a full investigation. PGMOL will be making no further comment until that process is complete."

What action will be taken against David Coote if found guilty?

The date of the video's production and whether it is a genuine or artificial intelligence deepfake are unknown. On the other hand, Coote has frequently angered Klopp and Liverpool fans in general over the years, and social media users are now analyzing a number of significant choices he has made during Reds games.
