The France Football Federation have already announced their 26-man squad for the upcoming UEFA Euro 2024. The Les Blues have been one of the most dominant sides in world football over the recent few years. They won the FIFA World Cup in 2018 and qualified for the finals in the 2022 edition. However, their performance in the European marquee tournament has been upsetting as they lost to Switzerland in the previous edition due to penalties in the RO16.

Didier Deschamps has already named the squad with Olivier Giroud, the star AC Milan striker has been included in the side. However, the footballer has decided to retire from international football, after the end of the Euro 2024. The forward has been exceptional in the last few editions for the national side.

The 37-year-old footballer is the all-time goal scorer for the national side with 57 goals as he surpassed the previously held record of 51 goals of Thierry Henry in the 2022 edition of the World Cup. The former Arsenal forward has been one of the finest in PL football as he for the Gunners have scored 73 goals in 180 appearances for the North London club and then travelling to the other side of London, playing for Chelsea scoring 17 goals for the Blues.

Giroud set to join MLS

As per the reports, he will also be leaving Europe and joining Major League Soccer (MLS) club Los Angeles FC (LAFC) after the marquee tournament ends in July. The veteran footballer has been a winner of the UEFA Champions League with the West London side as well. He believes the final international tournament of his prolonged career will be a bit different from the nostalgia which is going to hit for the years he has played for the three-time world champions.

Speaking to L’Équipe, Giroud stated "Obviously I’m going to miss it a lot, but I think my time with the French team will be over after the Euros. I need to cede my place to the young players. A recognition that it’s time for a new generation to come forward and lead the national side, with players like Marcus Thuram (26) looking ready to take the mantle."
