Liverpool head coach Arne Slot reflected positively on his team's performance, suggesting that their hard work played a major role in securing a win against Paris Saint-Germain in the first leg of the Round of 16.

While he acknowledged that PSG dominated much of the match at the Parc des Princes, he highlighted the importance of Alisson's outstanding performance, which ultimately set the stage for a late winner from substitute Harvey Elliott.

PSG dominated with 71 per cent possession and unleashed 27 shots, while Liverpool managed just two. Liverpool's manager also made heaps of praise for the Ligue One champions and acknowledged they were the better side of the day.

Arne Slot considers his side to be very 'lucky'

Slot emphasized that to secure any title, be it the Premier League, League Cup, Champions League, or FA Cup, teams experience moments when they don’t play their best football yet still manage to snag a result. Luck plays a crucial role in those decisive games.

"There are no teams that play 38 games that play only good football. Real Madrid is one of the best examples of that, they also find a way to win a game if the other team is better than them,” said Slot.

“We were not a little bit lucky… we were very, very, very lucky. But as Michael Jordan said, the harder you work, the bigger luck you have”. Slot added.

With this victory, Liverpool heads into the second leg of the contest with a narrow advantage. The support from the Anfield crowd will be crucial, and given the team's recent performance, one could argue that Slot's squad is well on their way to securing a place in the quarterfinals of the UEFA Champions League.
