After Aaron Ramsdale, the former goalkeeper for Arsenal, made an emotional homecoming to the club on Saturday alongside Southampton, Mikel Arteta wished him well. After losing his spot to David Raya, Ramsdale made a £25 million summer transfer from the Gunners to the Saints. When he and Southampton met again at the Emirates Stadium for the Premier League game, his new club made a surprise threat.

In the 55th minute, Cameron Archer's counterattack gave the opposition the lead after many strong saves from Ramsdale. Three minutes later, however, Kai Havertz drove in via the inner part of the post to equalize, and Bukayo Saka then passed for Gabriel Martinelli to send Arsenal ahead.

Saka's error allowed Yukinari Sugawara to secure a victory for Arsenal, who went on to win 3-1 and keep their perfect start to the campaign. Ramsdale played well in goal and controlled his emotions throughout the game, despite giving up three goals.

He didn't do so before the game, though, and the enthusiastic cheers of the Arsenal supporters during the warm-up made him cry. After the full-time whistle, Ramsdale spoke with David Raya, Arteta, and Arsenal goalkeeping trainer Inaki Cana Pavon while the Gunners supporters continued to sing his name during injury time.

“I wished him all the best” : Mikel Arteta to Aaron Ramsdale

After the game, Mikel Arteta spoke to the media and discussed what he discussed with Aaron Ramsdale. He said, “I wished him all the best and congratulated him for the way that they played as well. I wish him the best and I hope they do – especially for the manager and Aaron because they are a really good side.”

Aaron Ramsdale spoke to the media last month and discussed his time at Arsenal. He said, "What he did for me in my time at Arsenal, I can only thank him for, and he thanked me for my contribution [when leaving]. Not just myself but as a football club, getting back into the Champions League, pushing for a trophy.”
