Mason Mount suffered a muscular injury throughout Manchester United's English Premier League loss to Brighton, and examinations have indicated that he will be sidelined for several weeks.
After experiencing a problem in the first half, Mount left the game at halftime at the Amex Stadium, and United lost 2-1. That was unfortunate for the £55 million midfield player, who had a healthy preseason and had started each of the first three league games of the new season. He was especially good in Brighton's first forty-five minutes before he was substituted.
The former Chelsea superstar posted on social media as he said, “During the last game I picked up a minor muscle issue. I've had it checked and it looks like I'll be out for a few games. Leading up to and during pre-season, I worked hard to get my fitness back to where it needs to be and I felt re-energised, sharp and ready.”
He added that, “I wanted you to hear it directly from me how frustrated I am, as I expect you are too. I will do everything possible to be back in the best shape and help the team.”
Mason Mount’s topsy-turvy career so far at Manchester United
Mount won't play in Sunday's English Premier League match at Old Trafford against Liverpool. Following that, there will be a two-week break ahead of the September international break. That week, United begins their Europa League campaign and makes a doubleheader of away games upon their return.
Mount only started five Premier League games in the inaugural campaign at Old Trafford due to injury. Due to two different problems, he missed a total of 27 games, including five months of play because of a calf injury.
This problem will derail his early-season momentum, and it's possible that Erik ten Hag may assign Joshua Zirkzee his first offensive start and return Bruno Fernandes back into his attacking midfield role. Ten Hag will provide further information on Mount's condition at his pre-Liverpool news conference on Friday.
