The Red Devils have faced a dismal season in the 2024-25 campaign, suffering 17 losses in the Premier League and currently sitting in 16th place on the points table—marking their worst league standing since the 1973-74 season. Amorim, who took over from Erik ten Hag in November, has been unable to improve the team's domestic performance, as evidenced by their elimination from both the FA Cup and the Carabao Cup following defeats to Fulham and Tottenham, respectively.
In the Europa League, the Red Devils have demonstrated consistency, overcoming quality opponents such as Lyon and Athletic Club to reach the final, where they will compete against fellow English club Tottenham.
"We need to be really strong in the summer, we need to be brave." said the club owner of Manchester United.
According to The Guardian, regardless of the outcome in the final, the club intends to retain the Portuguese coach, as they believe he deserves at least the summer transfer window to acquire players who fit his system. Manchester United will take on Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on Friday. The match will be important with regards to preparing for the much anticipated finals at San Mames on May 22nd 2025.
