Manchester City is considering Barcelona midfielder Frenkie de Jong as a potential option to cover for the injured Rodri, according to reports from Football365.

This comes after Rodri sustained an injury during the match against Arsenal on September 22. He had to leave the field during the first half of the game, and has since traveled to Spain for consultation on the nature and severity of the injury.

City's Gaffer, Pep Guardiola has confirmed that Rodri will miss the rest of the season. Therefore, City is reportedly planning to bolster their midfield in his absence.

"Manchester City can confirm that Rodri has suffered a ligament injury to his right knee. The injury was sustained during the first half of this weekend’s 2-2 draw with Arsenal in the Premier League. Everyone at the club wishes him a speedy recovery and mancity.com will bring you regular updates regarding his rehabilitation,” Manchester City said in their official statment.

As per Football365, long-time favourite of the Red Devils, De Jong has emerged as a potential transfer target for Manchester City . It is believed that the Citizens have already made a €50 million offer to sign the Barcelona midfielder in January, who would otherwise be a free agent in 2026.

Update on De Jong's recovery

De Jong has been sidelined by an injury for the past five months, causing him to miss Euro 2024 with the Netherlands. However, there is hope for his return as head coach Hansi Flick revealed that the player is nearing a comeback.

Barcelona manager provided an update on De Jong's fitness ahead of the team's La Liga match against CA Osasuna. With 213 appearances for Barcelona, De Jong has notched 17 goals and 21 assists.

“The problem for him is not the normal week, he is an experienced player, he can help me even if he plays 20 minutes, but we have to see how he evolves. We’ll see next week," Flick said.
