Liverpool set to onboard Bayer Leverkusen's star Jeremie Frimpong as their first signing

The reigning Premier League champions ' quest to sign a solid wing-back following the departure of Trent Alexander-Arnold may apparently come to an end with their new proposed signing. Liverpool is almost confirmed to sign Bayer Leverkusen's star in the next season.

Bayer Leverkusen's Jeremie Frimpong looks set to put pen to paper with the Reds come next season. It is reported that the footballer has already reached verbal agreements with the defending Premier League champions.

Liverpool close to signing Jeremy Frimpong 

Jeremie Frimpong is reportedly going to join Liverpool after reaching a verbal agreement on a five-year contract, making him the first signing for coach Arne Slot this summer. Liverpool is expected to activate the €35 million release clause for the Bayer Leverkusen right-back.

Jeremie Frimpong was one of Liverpool's prime targets since 2024. The club even approached Leverkusen to get his signature last season, but the player chose to remain with the Bundesliga outfit. The club had already planned the signing of the Dutch baller even before Trent Alexander-Arnold made up his mind to switch to Real Madrid. He will now acquire Arnold's position in Arne Slot's system. Liverpool's Conor Bradley may prove to be a good competitor against the Dutch for a place in the starting eleven.

Despite the speedy negotiations and medical checkups, it cannot be denied that Frimpong was in close contact with several other clubs, including Manchester City, Barcelona and others. Liverpool had made their stance clear to the player, asserting that he was their first choice for the position of wing-back.

Since joining Bayer Leverkusen in 2020, Jeremy Frimpong has made 190 appearances for the club across competitions. He has also portrayed his offensive qualities by netting 30 goals and contributing to Leverkusen's Bundesliga exploits in the 2023-24 season.
