Many Liverpool fans have been talking about Riccardo Calafiori as he proceeds to perform well at Euro 2024. The Bologna defender made an impression during Italy's opening victory against Albania, and he did so once more against Spain, despite the fact that a 1-0 loss was ultimately decided by his own goal.

Excitement thus followed when the Athletic revealed that the Reds had made an enquiry pertaining to the Italy international, joining a lengthy list of centre backs who have been connected to a summer transfer to Anfield. He would, after all, tick off several Liverpool boxes.

The left-sided defender became the preferred target when the Reds were first looking for a new centre-back last summer, before determining what Jarell Quansah would do after having to re-prioritize their midfield makeover.

That's exactly what Calafiori is, since he can play left or centre defence. He is a rapid, contemporary defender with excellent passing range who is good with the ball as well as in the air. He would fit right in with Liverpool's backline and can be a force to reckon alongside Virgil Van Dijk.

Will Liverpool sign Riccardo Calafiori during the upcoming transfer window?

Despite their original attitude from last summer, it's thought that Reds executives do not view a new centre-back as an imminent priority at this time. Liverpool is pursuing Leny Yoro from Lille, although that pursuit is considered as distinct from the others.

Liverpool is said to have scouted him previously, so they were well aware of his abilities well before UEFA Euro 2024. Not only that, but he was one of Bologna's best players this year, helping them reach the Champions League for the very first time since 1964–1965.

Because of this, they won't rush to sign the defender, even if demand for his services and his price tag will undoubtedly rise following an outstanding international tournament. Their knowledge base is more extensive and would look to see him play well in the Serie A for one more year.
