Caoimhin Kelleher is prepared to depart from Liverpool in pursuit of playing for a starting squad.

Kelleher, 25, has supported Alisson for a number of years at Anfield, though he did participate in a few pivotal matches while Jurgen Klopp was manager. This included playing a pivotal role in the 2022 EFL Cup final versus Chelsea.

But Kelleher thinks it's time to move on because Liverpool recruited Giorgi Mamardashvili, who is expected to join them for their next campaign. The Irish custodian hinted that he would have departed this summer if Liverpool hadn't turned down bids.

Prior to the Republic of Ireland’s UEFA Nations League encounter against Greece, he said, "I made it clear in the last few years I want to go be a number one and play week in, week out. The club made the decision to get another goalkeeper. From the outside looking in, it looks like they have made a decision to go in another direction.”

On Saturday, Kelleher stopped seven of England's nine shots, but he was unable to stop Declan Rice or Jack Grealish from netting to give the Three Lions a 2-0 victory.

Which clubs wanted to sign Caoimhin Kelleher during the summer?

The Liverpool player added that, “My ambition has always been clear the last few seasons that I want to be a number one, playing week in week out. At times it is not always in my hands. My mission was to go out and play, and be a number one. It has been reported that Liverpool had rejected a few bids as well. It is not always in my hands to make the decision. My ambition is to prove I am good enough to play week in, week out."

It was anticipated that the Ireland goalie will depart from Anfield in the summer to pursue a position with a first team. Kelleher intended to depart before last week's deadline, according to transfer reporter Graeme Bailey. Wolves and Southampton made queries, but Nottingham Forest's offer was turned down.
