Lionel Messi is set to extend his contract with Inter Miami and it will be extended till the end of the 2026 FIFA World Cup. The reason can be the new managerial signing of Inter Miami after the departure of Tata Martino.
Javier Mascherano and Lionel Messi are back again, this time around with Inter Miami. Mascherano most recently coached the Olympic team and Argentina's under-20 squad. He has agreed to a three-year agreement and will assume responsibility once his work documentation is finished.
Mascherano's appointment as Inter Miami's new coach was finalized on Tuesday, marking the reunion of the former FC Barcelona and Argentina colleagues. Late last week, the parties agreed that Mascherano would take Gerardo "Tata" Martino's position after he resigned for personal reasons.
Mascherano is re-joining forces with more than simply Messi. Mascherano played with current Inter Miami star Jordi Alba, Sergio Busquets, and Luis Suarez while he was with FC Barcelona. All three are anticipated to return for the 2025 campaign.
Javier Mascherano said, “This job requires somebody with the experience to be able to maximize our unique collection of talent — from our global superstars, to our burgeoning homegrown players, to our young international prospects, and everything in between. Javier has amassed unmatched experience in his career, from playing on the world’s biggest stages, to coaching at the youth international level.”
“To be able to lead a club like Inter Miami” : Javier Mascherano
The former Liverpool midfielder said, “To be able to lead a club like Inter Miami is an honor for me, and a privilege I will strive to make the most of,” Mascherano said. “I was drawn to the organization’s undeniable ambition, and the infrastructure it has to support it. I’m looking forward to working with the people at Inter Miami to help the club reach new heights, and to give the fans more unforgettable moments.”
This year's regular season was the best in Major League Soccer history, and Javier Mascherano is taking over the squad. With a 22-4-8 record, Inter Miami set league records for both winning percentage (.765) and points (74) scored. However, the squad lost a best-of-three first-round series to Atlanta United in the playoffs.
