On Friday night, Cristiano Ronaldo attended the 2024 Globe Soccer Awards in Dubai. The five-time Ballon d'Or winner has been vocal about a variety of issues, from the "unfair" award to his assertion that he could turn around Manchester United's history if he were to take over the Red Devils.
But when he spoke up about the Saudi Pro League's quality and said that Ligue 1 was worse than the Saudi top division. "The Saudi Pro League is better than Ligue 1, of course. I'm not saying that because I play here. I don't care what people think about it. Players should come here and they will see quickly. Just try to do sprints at 38, 39, 40 degrees…", he said.
Cristiano Ronaldo has previously attacked the caliber of Ligue 1 while discussing his inability to guide Al-Nassr to the Saudi Pro League championship. He asserted that the SPL had more competitiveness than the French top flight, for example, in January.
Ligue 1's official Spanish-language X account made a reference to Messi's triumph in the stunning 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar in response to Ronaldo's comments on French football and the reasons he thinks the Saudi Pro League is more challenging.

Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo have a rich history of rivalry
Ligue 1 carefully noted in the post that Messi was playing for PSG when he won the World Cup final in Qatar. Ronaldo, however, lost his place in the Portugal starting lineup during the tournament. Ronaldo and Lionel Messi have an amazing rivalry. The two engaged in a struggle for dominance in the 2010s while playing for Real Madrid and Barcelona, respectively.
Messi is taking a vacation following the 2024 season with Inter Miami, which saw the team win the MLS Supporters' Shield but lose in the MLS Cup playoffs. Ronaldo is halfway through the 2024–25 season with Al-Nassr. In the penultimate match before the current break in early December, the Saudi team fell to leaders Al-Ittihad and presently sits in fourth position in the rankings after 13 games, 11 points behind them. Matches will resume on January 9 when Al-Akhdoud takes against Ronaldo's Al-Nassr.
