Spanish football officials rejected Barcelona's most recent effort to extend their registration on Saturday, stating that Dani Olmo and Pau Victor would not be eligible to play for the La Liga team in the second half of the season. Pau Victor, a 23-year-old attacker, has mostly played as a substitute this season, whereas Olmo, a 26-year-old midfielder who helped Spain win the European Championship last year, has been a key member of Barcelona's squad.

They only registered Dani Olmo and Victor for the first half of the season because of La Liga pay cap issues, despite having signed them in August for almost 55 million euros ($56.7 million) and July, respectively. A joint statement from La Liga and the Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) stated that they had denied a request to register both players for the second half, stating that a player's license could not be reactivated by the same club within the same season.

"The Monitoring Committee agrees not to grant the prior approval or the definitive license requested by FC Barcelona for the players Daniel Olmo Carvajal and Pau Victor Delgado," the RFEF said.

Both players can go as free agents if Barcelona fails to register

La Liga has previously praised the court decisions, stating that while more expenditure is permitted to prevent chronic injuries from devaluing a team, the regulation shouldn't be abused to permit the registration of players whose wages are higher than the cap. According to Spanish media, in a final effort to get the two to play, Barcelona intends to protest with the Spanish government. Barcelona did not respond immediately.

According to reports, the Blaugrana could make a last-ditch effort to register the Spaniard by appealing to the Spanish authorities. Given that Olmo and Pau Victor have the option to end their contracts if the Catalan club is unsuccessful, it is obvious that Barcelona would do all in its power to have them registered. How this issue develops in the upcoming weeks is still up in the air.

With 38 points after 19 games, Barcelona is currently ranked third in the La Liga standings. Cross-town rivals Atletico Madrid, who are only two points behind Los Blancos with a game remaining, might overtake archrivals Real Madrid, who are also leading the standings with 43 games from 19 appearances.
